SUMMARY:Communications and Public Speaking: Creating a Culture with Dignity
  and Respect
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:
 We usually define ‘civil’ as meaning polite and
  courteous. It’s related to ‘civilization’ and recalls the way we in
 teract with each other within the guidelines of societal rules and implied
  codes of conduct. We need civility in our civilization to organize oursel
 ves and keep things running smoothly. Without it\, we invite&nbsp\;conflic
 t&nbsp\;into our affairs.&nbsp\;
 The same goes for businesses and other
 organizations that bring together people for meaningful interaction. In th
 ese circumstances\, everyone must be civil or else the group’s ability t
 o do their work properly will be in jeopardy. In the workplace\, teams and
  groups will usually have their own official and unspoken rules of civilit
 y.&nbsp\;
 Not being civil means demonstrating a rude or impolite attitud
 e or behavior towards others with the effect of making them uncomfortable.

 This could include behaviors such as:

 Insulting or demeaning comme
 nts
 Jokes made at someone’s expense
 Loud\, distracting\, or inapprop
 riate conversation&nbsp\;
 Being discourteous or impolite towards someone

 As project managers\, how can you set the standard of civility for y
 our team?
