Speaker: Karlene Fyffe Phillips, MLIS, MDiv.

Abstract:  

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." - John F. Kennedy, 1963.

This statement is a powerful reminder and challenge for leaders to learn and evolve in order to remain relevant and effective.

In this presentation the speaker will examine and address key techniques to demonstrate leading and learning from the HEART. HEART stands for:

• Helping

• Everyone

• Achieve

• Results

• Together

Leading and learning from the HEART is about achieving as a team.

Learning Objectives:  

Participants will

1. Learn and understand that success in our clubs, jobs or homes comes from teamwork

2. Understand the importance of each team member.

3. Learn how to engage team members

About the Speaker:

Karlene Fyffe Phillips, MLIS, MDiv.

Karlene is currently employed by the Durham County Government as a manager with the library system. She has served in various areas for 18 years, managing branches, divisions and special projects. She was instrumental in creating and implementing an outreach plan to fill the gaps created by the recent closing of the Main Library.

Karlene is actively involved in Toastmasters International as a way of constantly working on her own professional development. She is a member of three local clubs, serves as a club coach and sponsor, and is currently serving as a Division Director. In addition, she serves as an Associate Minister and the Director of Christian Education at Beacon Light Missionary Baptist Church in Durham.
